RepeatLang is a free app for learning languages by listening to short clips of real people. It is run by SZ9 AB, Sweden. This page explains what happens to your data when you use it.
No account
You do not sign up or log in. You do not need to provide your name or email address.
Your progress stays on your device
Your answers, review timing, progress, streak and settings (such as the app language) are saved in your browser on this device. They are not sent to us, and we cannot see them, unless you choose to move them with a code (see below). If you clear your browser data, they are deleted. In Settings you can reset your progress and streak. Reset keeps your settings, such as sound and whether videos may load; you can change those in Settings or remove them by clearing your browser data.
Usage statistics, only if you say yes
The app asks once whether you want to share usage statistics. Nothing is collected unless you say yes. If you do, the app sends us a summary of each visit: which levels and sentences you practised and how (answers, replays, which help you opened, listening time), how long the visit lasted, the app and browser language, your time zone, device type, screen size, operating system and browser, and the website that linked to you. A random number saved on your device lets us count returning visits without knowing who you are. From your IP address, Netlify gives us your country, region and city; we never store the IP address itself. We never receive your name, email address, notes or saved progress.
We use the statistics to improve the course and the app. Visit summaries are deleted after thirty-five days; we keep only daily totals that cannot identify you. Our legal basis is your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by turning off Share usage stats in Settings, which also deletes the random number from your device.
Moving progress with a code
If you choose Move your progress, your device makes a random code and locks a copy of your progress with it before sending it to us. We store only the locked copy, which we cannot read, for ninety days, and then delete it. Anyone who has the code can load that copy, so keep it to yourself. Our legal basis is providing the service you asked for.
Clip reports
When you report a clip, we receive the clip details, the problem you choose and any optional note. Reports are stored privately with Netlify for us to review and improve the course. They do not automatically remove clips or change your learning progress. Please leave personal or sensitive information out of notes.
We keep reports while needed to investigate the issue and improve the course. If you need help with a report, contact us using the details below. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in maintaining a useful, accurate service. The owner’s local authoring preview has separate device-local review tools.
Videos from YouTube
Lessons play clips from public YouTube videos in YouTube’s own player. Nothing from YouTube loads until you choose to play a video. After that, your browser connects to YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com and youtube.com). YouTube, which is part of Google, receives technical information such as your IP address, your browser and the video you watch, and may store cookies or similar data on your device. Google decides how it uses that information, as described in the Google Privacy Policy. Ads shown inside the player come from YouTube, not from us. You can turn videos off again in Settings.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Netlify, which also stores the usage statistics, progress codes and clip reports for us. To deliver pages and protect the service from abuse, for example by limiting how many requests one address can make, Netlify processes technical data such as IP addresses, request times and browser details on our behalf. We use this only to run and secure the service. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing a working, secure website.
This data is kept only as long as needed to deliver the site, investigate abuse or errors, and meet legal duties, under Netlify’s standard log retention. Netlify is based in the United States and may process data outside the EU/EEA; such transfers are covered by the safeguards in Netlify’s data processing terms.
What we do not do
We do not use advertising trackers, tracking cookies or third-party analytics, and we do not sell data. Usage statistics are only collected if you say yes.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to the personal data we process about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, to restrict its use, or to send it to you in a portable format, where these rights apply. You can also object to processing based on our legitimate interest, such as hosting and security logs. Because your progress is stored only on your device, you control it directly. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time in Settings. For any request, email contact@sz9sales.com. You can read more about these rights at the European Data Protection Board, and you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
